Ducati’s 90 anniversary.

Ducati Brand is celebrating in 2016 nothing less than 90 years of existence.

The history of this road sign began in a laboratory in Bologna with the Ducati brothers, it soon began a small company composed of two employees and a secretary.

The first product they marketed was an electric capacitor that was barely the size of a coin. However, this product had such a big success that in just two years the Ducati brothers had to move their production to a family village where they had more space to produce.

In 1935 this family putted the foundation stone for the factory that would later become the unmistakable icon of the brand, in the municipality of Borgo Panigale. In 1936, between wars, the factory reached 1200 employees hired.

20 years later the company was divided into two branches, “Ducati Elettotecnica” and “Ducati Meccanica” and Fabio Taglioni, the true father of the modern Ducati was incorporated to the company’s ranks.

After 30 years of collaboration, the brilliant engineer turned out to have collaborated in thousands of projects, creating the first competition Ducati (1954) and implementing the system that would become the sign of the brand: The Desmo (1956), as well as the twin-cylinder engine il L (1971) and the Trellis multitube chassis (1979)

The portfolio of projects was growing with avant-garde proposals, as well as a long list of sporting victories, such as: the “Motogiro d’Italia” (1954 – 1957), the “grand prix races” in 125 and 250 (1956 – 1961), the 200 “Miglia di Imola” (1972) which won Paul Smart and Mike Hailwood’s “Tourist Trophy” (1978), right at the end of Taglioni’s career and which coincided with Marco Lucchinelli’s victory at the “Battle of the Daytona Twins” (1986).

Over the years and with great sporting successes, they were followed by decades of great technological innovations, with the birth of highly admired models such as the 1199 Panigale, as well as a development of the brand’s global proportion.
